Football - Johnson bemoans errors

Yeovil manager Gary Johnson was left to rue defensive errors as high-flying Burnley left Huish Park with a 2-1 win.

The Clarets took the lead 19 minutes into their first trip to the south Somerset club when the in-form Danny Ings found space 20 yards out and rifled past Marek Stech in the Yeovil goal, before Sam Vokes tapped in a second on the hour mark.

Yeovil's reply arrived after 79 minutes when young forward Kieffer Moore surged down the left wing and curled a cross-cum-shot towards the far post which eluded flailing goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Johnson said: "The difference was we made two bad mistakes, the top teams don't make those mistakes so that gifts strikers the goals.

"We had to work very hard to create our own opportunities and we certainly did create enough opportunities to come away with something.

"We are getting in there, we're not a million miles away. But it's not about the strikers, it's about the whole team.

"It takes us to get a punch on the nose before we start fighting, but we need to hit the opposition on the nose before they hit us.

"I think it's the level we're at, we're not as experienced as other teams and the teams that are at the top are at the top for a reason.

"We stayed in it but you need to make sure your first pass is right, your first tackle is won, your first strike is on target and that's how you do it, but it would be nice to start a game like that."
