Stanley were propping up the League Two table last month but are now 20th and hold a three-point advantage over second-bottom Torquay.
A brace from Kal Naismith made it four wins in five league games for Stanley as they came from behind after Paul McCallum had given the Gulls a 14th-minute lead.
"We have got to keep focused and keep believing and keep everyone together," Knill said.
"We are in a rut but things can change very quickly in football. It was a good performance against Accrington but we need results.
"We want to give the fans something to shout about and be proud of as at the moment it is a tough time.
"We did enough to take a point at Accrington but we got to stick together and now we go into Tuesday's derby with Plymouth and we know we need to win."
