Neil Lennon has warned his on-loan striker Mo Bangura that playing against Celtic for Elfsborg in their potential Champions League third qualifier would not be "in his best interests."

The Hoops, almost certain to go through to the next round after a 3-0 away win over Cliftonville in the first leg of their second qualifier on Wednesday night, were today drawn against either the Swedish side or Daugava Daugavpils.

Elfsborg are also likely to go through after winning 7-1 against the Latvians in the first leg with Bangura netting once.

The 23-year-old is on loan from the Scottish champions until the end of the year after failing to make an impact at Parkhead - no goals in 16 competitive appearances - following his move from Swedish side AIK in 2011 for a reported fee of £2.2million.

Elfsborg's club operations manager, Stefan Andreasson, told STV that Bangura "will play" against Celtic but Lennon is taking a very different stance.

The Parkhead boss said: "There is no UEFA ruling for it but I think it would be in his best interests not to play the game and if I get the opportunity to speak to him I will be telling him that as well.

"Were Elfsborg to succeed, in the longer term I don't think it would look good for Mohamed's future here.

"I won't speak to Elfsborg but my take on it is that in his current situation it wouldn't be a good idea.

"If he played it would put him in a compromising situation.

"I think it would be a very difficult situation for him mentally as well so I think it would be best for all parties if he didn't participate in either of the ties."
