Liddle may not play again until 2014 after sustaining an ankle injury during the 1-1 home draw with Bristol City. The 27-year-old left Meadow Lane on Saturday evening wearing a protective boot after being hurt in a challenge with Robins defender Greg Cunningham.
Magpies manager Shaun Derry fears the player may have damaged ligaments but is awaiting the results of scans to determine the extent of the problem, although the club are optimistic there is no broken bone.
Callum Ball was another injury concern at the weekend after he was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure following a clash of heads with a visiting defender, but Derry is hopeful the on-loan Derby striker will be fit for their trip to Vale Park.
