Football - McDonald blow for Blades

Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson is set to be without Kevin McDonald for this weekend's clash with league leaders Tranmere, but hopes to have him back in time for the busy Christmas period.

The midfielder limped out of last weekend's 3-1 win at Carlisle with an ankle injury and has not been able to train all week so will play no part in the game against Ronnie Moore's side.

"He's getting better, but is very doubtful for Saturday," Wilson said.

"I don't really know after that. He might be okay for the following week. We will keep our fingers crossed that he will be available for the Christmas period.

"He has not done a great deal this week. The swelling of his ankle is quite prominent, but it is coming down and has done over the last few days."
