Derek McInnes was sacked by Bristol City in January

McInnes officially took over two days after a 1-0 defeat at Dundee United consigned Aberdeen to a fourth consecutive season in the bottom six of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Aberdeen have won just two games in 2013 and McInnes appreciates that it will take a collective effort to recapture past glories.

McInnes said: "I am here because I want to be successful. Other managers in the past have sat here and said the same things on the first day. Everyone wants to be the manager that turns this club around.

"I must stress, though, it is not just down to me. I will take a huge amount of the responsibility in trying to get a team that the fans will be proud of but we all have to try and inspire the city.

"We have to get the city falling in love with the team again."

McInnes met his new squad for the first time on Monday but watched from the stands as they lost at Tannadice.

"Having been at Tannadice on Saturday and seen the level of support, it has made me even more determined," he said.

"We are very lucky to have that support. We know there are more out there if we can just get them stimulated again and get them believing in their team again.

"I think the support will turn out if they see a committed, hard-working, winning Aberdeen team. That is the challenge for us all."
