Football - Owls win thrills Jones

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones was delighted with on-loan Stoke striker Mamady Sidibe after his powerful header fired the Owls to a 1-0 win at Bolton.

The former Mali international latched onto Lewis Buxton's long cross to head home in the first half and the visitors held on for 65 minutes to record their third consecutive win.

Peterborough's victory at Wolves means Wednesday remain two points above the npower Championship relegation zone, five points shy of Wanderers.

"It was a perfect away performance," said Jones

"The last five minutes we probably panicked a bit, but in the first half we got them on the back foot and we worked them hard.

"We limited them and stopped them attacking and we caught them on the counter attack. At times we rode our luck but we put our bodies on the line for the cause, which is all you can ask for.

"It was a game which players love playing in and we shut every avenue they had down for the win.

"Mamady's goal was probably a perfect centre-forward's goal. He deserved it because he's worked his socks off for a number of years to get back fit again.

"All he's needed is to play games and he's now getting these games and he's slowly getting used to playing again."
