Leicester have added Kevin Phillips to their ranks

Phillips joined the Foxes last week after his contract expired at Crystal Palace and the veteran striker, 40, made his debut as a second-half substitute as Pearson's side won 1-0 at Leeds to extend their lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship to five points.

"I'd like to introduce him to the coaching side of the club at a later date," said Pearson. "We have spoken about that but, for this season, he wants to concentrate on playing and I am happy for that.

"He might play until he's 50, I don't know! But eventually it's a good progression for somebody in his position.

"We've done it before. I've done it with Chris Powell when I was at the club previously.

"He was a player-coach. He played exceptionally well for us, but also because of his ability as a coach and his stature in the game it was a very good link for him and a good starting point.

"So I think it would be a good progression for Kev, but he's already said to me he wants to concentrate on playing this season and he's shown here that he's got a lot to offer still.

"He brings vast experience and quality, so forget the number that is associated with his name - and his age. He is a great addition to the club."

Phillips has scored 285 goals for nine different clubs during his 20-year career.
