The 24-year-old, borrowed from npower League One side Yeovil, has been a regular part of the struggling Pilgrims squad since returning back to the club he left in 2008 having come through the ranks.

Argyle are just two points above the drop zone ahead of the Devon derby clash with Exeter on Saturday, the first of four clashes with the division's top seven before the season is over.

"I support Plymouth and they gave me my first opportunity in professional football and I don't want them to go down," he told Press Association Sport.

"I've had a good opportunity from the manager to come here and get some game time. He has given me that and as well as playing some games I'd like to think I'm helping out Plymouth Argyle stay in the Football League as well.

"Obviously in league status a lot has changed since I was here before, there has been some big changes but hopefully we can beat the drop and get on the road back to playing those big sides again."

Argyle welcome Paul Tisdale's Grecians having recorded just one win over their fiercest rivals in the last five meetings but they came from behind to earn a point at St James Park. And Reid is relishing the chance to be a part of the lunchtime kick-off at Home Park.

"I can't wait for the game, obviously I've played against Exeter a few times in my career and their manager has always been a footballing type of manager," he said.

"I think they've sold 12,000 tickets so there will be a great atmosphere. Argyle fans are some of the best in the land in the way they get behind the team so hopefully that will give us an added boost.

"It is all about putting in the sort of performances we have been and with a little bit of luck we can get a good result. Games like this are a bit different, it means so much to both sides."
