Daniel Sturridge thinks the next crop of England stars can have no finer role model to look up to than his Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard will equal Sir Bobby Moore's haul of 108 England caps on Tuesday if he overcomes a hip injury and lines up against Germany.

Gerrard, who made his England debut back in 2000, will become the nation's most capped outfield player if he takes part in all the warm-up games and the Three Lions progress to the knockout stages of the World Cup.

As a newcomer to the international scene, Sturridge regards his Liverpool and England colleague as something of an inspiration.

"He is a legend," said Sturridge, who has eight caps.

"He is a great man on and off the pitch too. He leads by example and he is someone I look up to.

"I am happy for him and his family. He deserves everything he gets because he works hard and he is someone every looks up to. He is a leader and the captain of the boys.

"I think he is an example for the youth coming up now and he is somebody that I look up to still."
