As the Grecians boss prepares to make a couple of changes when Wycombe travel to St James Park for a Football League Trophy tie his options are boosted by the fact that Aaron Dawson, Jordan Moore-Taylor and Scot Bennett can all play in a number of positions.

And while he knows a string of injuries would test the strength of his squad, he believes there are currently a number of players on the fringes of the line-up ready to step in.

"It does make my life much easier," he told Press Association Sport.

"The emergence of (young midfielder) Matt Grimes has allowed Scot Bennett to be more versatile, he can be used in the back four - which is where he started - so there are progresses being made.

"Depth is key. We can all pick a talented player somewhere else who might help our team but it is those on the fringes that keep the chemistry right, can come in at any point and are versatile and do a very good job - they are the players who make or break your team.

"Look, I'd want one or two more senior players in the squad if I could, with three or four injuries we are light but, fully fit, we are OK."
