Football - Wales kids' call from Freeman

Derby defender Kieron Freeman has been named in the Wales Under-21 squad for their forthcoming UEFA European Championship qualifier against Moldova.

Freeman could win his 10th cap at that level in Llanelli on Friday, March 22.

The 20-year-old full-back, signed from East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest last summer, has made 12 first-team appearances for Derby this season.

He has been on the sidelines in recent weeks with an ankle injury but was back in Nigel Clough's squad as an unused substitute in the Rams' 3-1 defeat to Birmingham last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Freeman's team-mate Mark O'Brien has been placed on stand-by for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 Squad for their forthcoming international against Portugal in Dublin on Monday, March 25.

Like Freeman, O'Brien returned from a month out with a knee injury as an unused sub at St Andrew's.
