Football - Yates calls for more

Cheltenham manager Mark Yates says he needs to see a vast improvement in his side when they face Gillingham on Saturday after the Robins failed to win away for the 16th time this season, going down 2-0 at Home Park.

The loss leaves Cheltenham outside the automatic promotion spots on goal difference and Yates says his promotion hopefuls just were not at the races.

"There are plenty more twists and turns but we have to make sure we do our job," he said. "Here we didn't do it.

"We have to make sure we are better next week by a million miles.

"We didn't turn up. I can't say that too often about my players. It was not good enough, we got well and truly beaten and we were lucky to get away with 2-0.

"We didn't cause them any problems but caused ourselves plenty. There wasn't one thing done right, bar Scotty Brown, whose done all right.

"Everybody was a little frustrated but none more than myself. We were abject at best and probably let's just get out of here and lick our wounds.

"I thought we started okay. You can't start well for 10 minutes and not do the basics right like we did. We were hopeless at everything and that probably just sums it up.

"I believe other results have not been good for other teams as well. It's not what we wanted because we do have to look after ourselves.

"We have got to put it right ourselves. We are disappointed but, like I say, we move on and prepare for Gillingham."
