Hayden knocked out in Indy accident

Nicky Hayden is undergoing precautionary checks in the Indianapolis medical centre after being knocked out in a crash in MotoGP qualifying crash.

The Ducati rider had a high-side on the way out of Turn 13, in a similar manner to the accidents of Casey Stoner and Ben Spies earlier in the session. Stoner was initially thought to have fractured his right ankle in the incident, but was later diagnosed with torn ligaments instead.

Hayden was briefly knocked unconscious in his accident and was taken away by ambulance. He regained consciousness and was waving to the crowd as he was stretchered into the vehicle.

After an initial check in the track medical centre, it was confirmed that Hayden had escaped serious injury. Further tests are now being carried out.
