In their first women's preliminary round group game, Russia found themselves a goal behind after two periods as Franziska Busch silenced the home crowd in the Shayba Arena.

But Russia came out firing on all cylinders in the third and final period, scoring four unanswered goals to claim a 4-1 victory.

Iva Gavrilova got Russia level before Olga Sosina put her side in the lead, Yekaterina Smolentseva adding a third before Sosina grabbed a fourth.

Earlier in the day, Sweden squeezed past Japan at the Shayba Arena, winning 1-0.

Jenni Asserholt put Sweden into a 13th-minute lead and that solitary goal proved enough with Japan unable to find the net.
