England were held to a 0-0 draw with ten-man Honduras after lightning stopped play for over 30 minutes in the first half.
Roy Hodgson's side took a while to get going but eventually created their first clear opening when Wayne Rooney's cross was dummied brilliantly by Danny Welbeck, but Daniel Sturridge could only drag his shot wide when he should have scored.
But just as England were moving up the gears, the game was suspended for almost 45 minutes due to a nearby electrical lightning storm.
Once the skies had cleared there were more yellow cards than clear-cut opportunities, but England continued to craft the clearer opportunities, with Ross Barkley, impressive once again, bending a shot just wide a minute after coming on as a substitute.
England's best chances fell to Sturridge, but the Liverpool striker was not at his best, missing two good chances in the second half - the first a chip after Barkley played him in and the second a free header that he put over the bar from Glen Johnson's cross.
Honduras defended admirably but England and Hodgson will be less concerned with the result and relieved to get his players to Brazil without any further injuries.
24' STURRIDGE CHANCE! Slick break by England as Rooney's low cross is dummied brilliantly by Welbeck, but Sturridge drags the ball wide from 12 yards.
25' PLAY SUSPENDED! Lightning and heavy rain stops play for over 30 minutes.
47' ENGLAND CHANCE! Great effort by Barkley within two minutes of coming on. The Everton man bends an effort towards goal from 25 yards that doesn't quite turn back in time.
53' STURRIDGE CHANCE! Another chance for Sturridge as Barkley finds him but the Liverpool man goes for an audacious chip when he should have just whacked it.
57' GREAT TACKLE! Great break by England as Welbeck and Wilshere combine on the break to find Barkley, but Izaguirre makes a perfectly-timed challenge as Barkley was about to pull the trigger.
64' RED CARD! Beckeles is sent off for clattering Baines with a loose elbow. He could have got a straight red for that, but it's a second yellow and Honduras are down to 10 men.
74' STURRIDGE CHANCE! Johnson crosses from the right but Sturridge puts his free header over the bar. Had to score.
TALKING POINT - Did Roy Hodgson learn anything from the game? Apart from not playing his World Cup warm-up games in Florida during the storm season, there was plenty of food for thought for the England manager. Barkley was impressive again after coming off the bench, Jordan Henderson showed what he can do and Danny Welbeck put in his best England display for some time. There should be some concern, however, that England failed to break down one of the World Cup's minnows with 10 men.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Danny Welbeck (England) - Henderson ran him close and Barkley was impressive again, but Welbeck put in a very good performance and one that could play him into the starting XI versus Italy. Linked well with Rooney and Sturridge and fulfilled his defensive duties too.
