Jason Mayhem Miller Surrenders After Standoff with SWAT Team

Jason ‘Mayhem' Miller Pleads Not Guilty to Recent Standoff-Related Charges

After a standoff that lasted several hours on Thursday, former UFC and Strikeforce fighter Jason “Mayhem” Miller surrendered to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, according to the department's official Twitter account.

Miller had holed up inside his home when deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant, stemming from charges related to domestic violence and stalking.

The situation escalated to the point that SWAT officers were called to the scene and crisis negotiators had to try and talk Miller out of the home in Mission Viejo, Calif.

Miller had been tweeting via his official verified account throughout the incident, claiming that the police response was disproportionate to the magnitude of the situation. He was, however, rather scattered in his comments and did little to provide much clarity on how the situation escalated and why he did not surrender earlier.

Mayhem hasn't fought since 2012, when he lost back-to-back bouts in the UFC. He spent the majority of his career fighting in the upper echelon of the sport, including defeating current No. 1 UFC welterweight contender Robbie Lawler to win the ICON middleweight championship.

He has often suffered through various personal issues both legally and mentally, which has apparently led him to Thursday's unfortunate situation, and landing him, once again, in police custody.
