Jon Jones Released from Jail After Posting $2,500 Bond

Former UFC Champ Jon Jones Strikes Plea Deal, Avoids Jail Time

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was released from the Bernalillo Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., late Monday night after posting a $2,500 bond.

Jones turned himself in to Albuquerque police a few hours earlier after a warrant was issued for his arrest in relation to a hit-and-run car accident that occurred on Sunday.

Jones allegedly ran a red light, hitting another vehicle and forced it into another car. After the accident, the UFC champion fled the scene. He was originally going to be charged with a misdemeanor, but that charge was later upgraded to a felony since he left the scene of an accident that resulted in an injury. The driver of the car that Jones initially struck, a young pregnant woman, suffered a fractured arm and wrist.

Although police made several attempts to contact Jones after he was identified by an off-duty officer as the driver of the car causing the accident, it wasn't until police issued an arrest warrant that Jones finally made contact and agreed to turn himself in. He did so without incident, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.

Jones is scheduled to defend his 205-pound title against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23. UFC officials have yet to comment about Jones' status and whether or not he will be removed from the line-up.
