Preston have agreed the signing of Luton midfielder Keith Keane on a free transfer.

The versatile 25-year-old is out of contract at Kenilworth Road and will be North End manager Graham Westley's 12th summer signing.

Deepdale chairman of football Peter Ridsdale said: "Keith has played over 250 career games and is still only 25. He is a player who is very experienced and we are delighted to sign him."

"He is known as a midfielder but he made his name as a right-back and played there when Luton won promotion from League One to the Championship.

"Graham has been tracking him for a while and he is a player he has always believed can do a job not just in League One but hopefully when we are promoted."

Keane, who made his professional debut for the Hatters aged just 16 in 2003, was excited at having been on Preston's radar and vowed to help the club return to the npower Championship.

He told the club's official website: "This is a massive club and you can't ask for anymore when you are aware the manager has been monitoring your career. It can only be a good thing because he recognises your qualities, and I am delighted to be joining Preston.

"League One is a good standard of football and I will be doing my best to impress and prove that I am able to play at this level again.

"The aim is to then go on and hopefully play at higher level and help Preston North End win promotion back to the Championship."
