King Mo Lawal Plans to ‘Whoop’ Joe Vedepo on His Way to Another Title Shot

King Mo Happy to Get Paid and Get a Bellator Belt… at Any Weight

Upsets and disappointing decisions have hampered Bellator MMA light heavyweight contender “King Mo” Lawal from capturing a second major MMA title. The former Strikeforce champion has lost twice to current Bellator 205-pound titleholder Emanuel Newton, but is determined to get back to a title fight.

Lawal takes on Joe Vedepo at Bellator 131 in hopes of continuing to stake his claim as the top contender to the Bellator light heavyweight crown.

“He’s a tough guy from Iowa. He trains at Alliance. In your face style, he’s a pressure fighter. That’s all I really know about him,” said Lawal about Vedepo, who stepped up on two week’s notice to fill in for Tom DeBlass, who suffered a nasty cut in training and had to pull out of the fight event.

“My goal is to beat up Joe and go from there and get to the belt,” said the 33-year-old.

Lawal doesn’t care who his next opponent is. He sees it as another day in the office. A fighter has to fight to make a living.

“It’s a payday. I don’t care what I have to lose. I just go out there and fight. My job is to fight. I just worry about me winning and getting paid. That’s all I worry about,” said the Tennessee native.

“I just fight for the money. Whomever they throw in front of me is whom I’m going to fight,” he added. “I don’t care if it's Godzilla, if it’s a crocodile. I don’t care if it’s a guy in a wheelchair, a guy with no arms, a guy with no hands; I’m whooping his ass. I’m whooping some ass until I get to a title shot.”

Lawal’s prediction for the fight outcome was simple, and predictable.

“He’s getting his ass whooped. That’s the only prediction I can give,” he said.
