Aberdeen stopper Jamie Langfield admitted he had a quiet time against Hearts

Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield believes talented youngster Ryan Fraser can play a key role for the Dons this season.

The diminutive winger gave the Hearts defence a torrid time during his side's goalless draw at Pittodrie. And Langfield is convinced the 18-year-old has the skill and bravery required to make it at the top level.

He said: "Whenever he gets tackled he just bounces right back up. He has no fear whatsoever. You can see that he is thoroughly enjoying playing in the first team. All of the older boys think it is so refreshing to see somebody so young and full of enthusiasm. Long may it continue."

The Dons stopper had one of his easier afternoons as his side dominated against a jaded Hearts team, still tired after their midweek Europa League exertions against Liverpool.

He said: "That was a very quiet game for me.

"We knew after they put a lot into their game the other night against Liverpool that they would be tired, although we had a game on Wednesday night that went to extra time.

"It was just one of those games where we needed the early goal as we could have then gone on and scored more. Unfortunately we couldn't get the goal that I thought we thoroughly deserved."

However Langfield admitted his side need to show more of a cutting edge after a second successive goalless draw at Pittodrie.

He added: "You don't want draws every week and we know we have to turn these draws into wins. We think we should be four points better off than what we are had we taken our chances.

"It's a good sign that we are talking that way rather than coming off the pitch thinking that we haven't played well but got a point. I can't remember the last time we have played at Pittodrie and got clapped off after a 0-0 draw. It just shows the fans realise that the boys are giving everything."
