Lay day called at Billabong Rio Pro

After two days of action at the Billabong Rio Pro at Arpoador, small waves at Barra Da Tijuca forced organisers to call a lay day.

The first round of the men's event and rounds one and two of the women's event had been completed at the back-up location of Arpoador but with just one-to-two foot waves on offer at Barra Da Tijuca, competition was called off.

“With minimal swell on offer and plenty of time remaining in the waiting period, we’ve called competition off for today,” Rich Porta, ASP international head judge said.

“We’ll return tomorrow morning to reassess conditions for a possible restart to competition.”

When the green light is given, Gabriel Medina will meet Peterson Crisanto in the men's draw while Tyler Wright, Courtney Conlogue, and Alessa Quizon will be first up in the women's competition.
