The goalkeeper spoke to reporters at an event today that saw him awarded the Gold Medal of the City of Madrid, for being ‘one of the best ambassadors of Madrid and Sport’.

At the event, he took the chance to make clear his determination to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, in light of three months without first team action due first to injury and then a continued difficult relationship with Coach Jose Mourinho.

“My future is at Real Madrid whatever happens, because I have a contract with them and because I have been here since I was nine, it is the club of my life and where I want to be,” affirmed Casillas.

Los Merengues were eliminated 4-3 on aggregate from the Champions League semi-finals this week by Borussia Dortmund, but in prompted for discussion on that and the suggestion of possible red cards not awarded in the game, Casillas was clear where focus should now lie.

“On that subject I think we have all had a say. My colleagues have made their declarations after the game.

“The press too, everyone said it might turn out to be an all-Spanish final. In the end it wasn’t to be and so next year we will strive again to get to the final and get our 10th Champions League title, which is what all Madrid supporters want.

“Now we have to focus on the immediate, which is trying to get as many points as possible in the League, for the club, for the team and the organisation.

“And then we will fight for the Copa del Rey Final, in a unique final, at the Bernabeu, and we will have to win it for the fans, they deserve the joy.

“Mourinho’s future? You have to ask him. I am here at an individual level and what interests me is that Real Madrid can take joy from the rest of the season, as whilst this year we could not win the Champions League, but we are still in the Copa del Rey.

“Barca’s exit from Europe too? I’ve not spoken to them, it was clear that after a game like in Munich, with the 4-0, the second leg would be hard and we have to congratulate both Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, because they were both good in this round and have deserved to go through.”
