Valdes has confirmed he will leave Camp Nou after 12 seasons as a first team player this summer but his destination is not yet known.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season Valdes has been free to speak to other clubs since January, and Mundo Deportivo reports he has made an agreement with Monaco.
But City have stepped up their interest and the contract with Monaco can be broken as per a number of clauses, with City able to pay Valdes’ way out of the deal.
Former Barca executives Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain are in positions of power at City and the Premier League club are said to be in the market for a replacement for Joe Hart.
Mundo Deportivo says Valdes would prefer Monaco for the lifestyle but he has always wanted to play in the Premier League, which could prove a decisive factor.
