Steve Lomas says there is no great secret to St Johnstone's revival

Manager Steve Lomas does not believe there is any great secret to St Johnstone's rejuvenation.

The Perth club won their first game of the season at home to Celtic in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League in the middle of the month, when it looked like they could struggle to get off the bottom of the table.

Saints are now on a run which has seen them win three and draw one of their last four games, the most recent being the 4-1 Scottish Communities League Cup third-round victory over Irn-Bru Third Division side Queen's Park in midweek.

Ahead of the trip to Tayside neighbours Dundee in the SPL on Saturday, the McDiarmid Park boss told Press Association Sport that the most obvious problems have been addressed.

"People like to over-complicate it and over-analyse it but it is simple," said Lomas. "It makes a difference when you can score when you are on top.

"We are taking chances now which we weren't doing and I think we have been harder to score against, so it is a combination. When we weren't getting the results I was happy with the performances.

"If we had played like the way we did against Aberdeen in the first five or six games I wouldn't have been happy. But I believed it was going to turn, when, was the question.

"It is a massive carrot for us to win three SPL games on the spin."

Lomas, though, is quick to guard against any suggestion that his side go into the game against the Dees, currently bottom of the table but only four points behind Saints, as favourites.

"I have seen Dundee's performances and they aren't far away," said the Northern Irishman. "I saw their very good win against Hearts where they performed very well and they did well in spells against Motherwell."
