Gary Madine is adamant Sheffield Wednesday will turn their season around

Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine maintains there are too many good players at the club for them to be struggling at the wrong end of the table for long.

The Owls have won only two of their 10 league games since winning promotion last summer and lie third from bottom in the table, but Madine is confident Dave Jones' side can turn their fortunes around - starting with Friday night's televised derby clash with Leeds at Hillsborough.

"When we play Leeds, hopefully it's going to kick-start our season," Madine told the club's official website.

"It's a big game, the fans will be there in their numbers as always and we're looking forward to it.

"We have quality all over the pitch and we will get out of this run, including Michail Antonio, who can beat a man and put the ball on someone's head."

Madine, who has started most games on the substitutes' bench this season is pushing hard for a recall to the starting line-up, scoring twice for the Owls' development side in their recent 3-2 win over Sheffield United.

"I've never had a run in the Championship and I'm absolutely itching for one," he added.

"I'm more than confident that if I play I'll get goals.

"I showed that the other night. I had two chances and scored two goals.

"I'm ready and waiting. The gaffer knows I'm there."
