Maresca, 32, is now committed to Malaga until the end of the 2012-13 season after extending his stay by one year.
He scored two goals in 19 league games last season as the club on Spain's south coast secured fourth place and entry to the Champions League qualifiers.
“I’m really pleased to be staying at Malaga, and I’ll do all I can to support the team next season," Maresca told the club's official website.
The Italian has spent two years at Malaga having joined the club from Olympiacos in the summer of 2010.
Prior to that he spent four seasons with Sevilla in La Liga, and counts Juventus and Fiorentina among his former clubs.
