Mark Munoz vs. Luke Barnatt Added to UFC Manila

The UFC is making its Filipino debut with a fight card that is already top heavy for a Fight Night event, but the promotion has added a couple more bouts to the line-up.

A key middleweight bout between “The Filipino Wrecking Machine,” Mark Munoz, and lanky Brit Luke Barnatt was the key announcement.

Munoz (13-6) recently returned to the Octagon at UFC 184 following a nine-month injury induced layoff. His return only continued a rough patch for the once promising 185-pounder, as he was choked unconscious by Roan Carneiro.

Munoz has now lost three consecutive bouts and four of his last five over the past three years. He is in dire need of a victory and would certainly like to do so in front the home country of his parents.

Barnatt (8-2) recently lost his spot on the UFC Fight Night 63 slated for April 4 when his opponent, Clint Hester, had to withdraw due to an injury. UFC officials were unable to secure a suitable replacement, so Barnatt will instead take the trip to the Philippines to fight Munoz.

The UFC also added a bantamweight fight between undefeated Singaporean Royston Wee (4-0) and The Ultimate Fighter China winner Ning Guangyou (4-2-1).

UFC Fight Night 66 is scheduled for May 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. The headliner pits former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar against former WEC featherweight titleholder Urijah Faber in a 145-pound, five-round main event. The co-main event features former Strikeforce and Dream champion Gegard Mousasi against Costa Philippou.
