Maxwell eyes English county stint to earn Oz Test recall

Johannesburg, Apr 25 (ANI): In view of missing out on a place for the upcoming series against West Indies and England, Australia swashbuckling batsman Glenn Maxwell is looking forward to a possible stint in English county cricket in order to earn a Test recall to his national squad. The right-handed batsman amassed 324 runs at an average of 64.80 in Australia's victorious World Cup campaign, and had hoped his impressive performance in the pinnacle tournament would earn him a spot in the Test squad. Maxwell said that he was hoping his performances against international attacks would hold him in good stead, but insisted that he has just got to keep finding a way to try and play some red ball cricket, Sport24 reported. Maxwell is looking to England where he played a Championship match with Hampshire in an attempt to get more first class cricket under his belt. In addition, a vacancy has come up at Yorkshire as compatriot Aaron Finch is ruled out following a hamstring injury. Maxwell said that he has always wanted to play county cricket and test his skills as he believes he could learn a lot over there. Maxwell, who has had a struggling career at the longer-format of the game, made his last Test appearance against Pakistan in the UAE last year before he was dropped from the squad for Australia's 2-0 series win over India in the home summer.
