Mixed Emotions For Rory McIlroy

Golfer Rory McIlroy says he is well prepared going into the U.S. Open despite a disappointing end to his final warm-up before the tournament.

He had missed the cut on his three previous starts but was joint leader with one hole to play at the St Jude Classic in Memphis.

But his hopes of winning were dashed after he went into the lake off the final tee, he missed a four-foot putt and hit a double-bogey six which dropped him to only joint seventh.

McIlroy, the defending U.S. Open champion, was not too downhearted by his late collapse.

"I saw a lot of positive signs this week, I got in a good position after 11 holes of the final round and hit a couple of shots coming in. Overall it's still a pretty good week.

"I said in the early part of the week, if I got into contention that was great. I did that. I feel like I'm well prepared going into the US Open."

Dustin Johnson is the one who flies north-west in the best of moods after he birdied two of the last three holes to win the tournament.
