Selectors have named an eight-strong squad for the event with Freyja Prentice and Katy French completing the women's team.

Two-time Olympian Nick Woodbridge remains a fitness doubt and will be assessed during the team's training camp in Font Romeu.

The men's squad will include former world junior champion Jamie Cooke, Joe Evans and Sam Weale, while Sam Curry could be drafted in if Woodbridge does not convince selectors he is ready for action.

“I was really proud to win the World Championships last year,” said Spence, who is currently ranked tenth in the world.

“I finally achieved what I knew I could do. It’s nice when you know you’re the best in the world at something, not everyone gets to be a world champion.

“The World Championships have a big meaning for me, because it was also my first individual gold medal.

“I don't think it puts any more pressure on me this time around though. I always go to competitions wanting to do the best I can and wanting to get on the podium.”
