New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow speaks at a news conference introducing him as a Jets at the team's training center in Florham Park, New Jersey March 26, 2012.

The former Denver Broncos and New York Jets quarterback joined the team's mandatory mini-camp on Tuesday where he signed a two-year contract with no guaranteed money.

New England coach Bill Belichick has spoken of his admiration for Tebow in the past while the Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels drafted Tebow in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft when he was coach of the Denver Broncos.

The Jets, divisional rivals of the Patriots, released quarterback Tebow in April, ending his brief and unsuccessful stint in New York.

His tenure with the Jets was brief and hugely unsuccessful, both for him and the team. One New York newspaper described it as a circus.

Tebow, a devout Christian whose public displays of religiosity polarised public opinion, will fight with Ryan Mallett for the right to backup the Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady.

The Patriots made room for Tebow by releasing third-choice QB Mike Kafka on Monday.

Experts have also often said that Tebow's skill-set could see him operate as a running-back or a tight end but all indications are that he will train as a quarterback with New England.
