The German had to wait until the tenth event of the season to claim his first win, but he has since made the top step of the podium his own.

And 24 hours after climbing it in Klingenthal, Frenzel was back there again in the 10km penalty race with a victory that propelled him to the top of the overall World Cup standings.

Frenzel lead after the ski jump and followed that up with the fastest cross-country time to take victory in 23:21.1 minutes.

And there was plenty for the German crowd to cheer as they saw a compatriot on each step of the podium, Tino Edelmann finishing second 23.4 seconds behind Frenzel with Johannes Rydzek third.

Frenzel now sits top of the World Cup standings on 674 points, leapfrogging France's Jason Lamy Chappuis who moved onto 617 after finishing fifth in Klingenthal.
