ONE FC Total Domination Results: Bibiano Fernandes Unifies Title; Shinya Aoki Wins Debut

ONE FC Rise of Heroes Results: Bibiano Fernandes Outpoints Masakatsu Ueda to Defend Belt

SINGAPORE — Bibiano Fernandes is the undisputed ONE FC bantamweight champion after winning a hard fought decision over Soo Chul Kim in the main event of ONE FC: Total Domination on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Brazilian has already won DREAM belts at 135 and 145 pounds, as well as the interim ONE FC bantamweight belt. He dominated his 21-year-old opponent for five rounds by repeatedly taking him down.

Kim defended valiantly on the ground and Fernandes never looked like he would finish the fight with a submission, but the BJJ black belt controlled the action and although the Korean was aggressive in the striking exchanges, he struggled to land any telling shots.

Next up for Fernandes, whose record stands at 15-3, is likely to be a fight with ONE FC 135-pound Grand Prix winner Masakatsu Ueda. Kim slips to 7-5 with this defeat, but got a big cheer from the Singapore crowd after the fight in recognition of his effort in going five rounds with one of the best bantamweights in the world.

The co-main event saw reigning ONE FC 155-pound champion Shinya Aoki (34-6-1) try his luck in the featherweight division for the first time. He emerged with a decision victory from his bout with Cody Stevens (11-6-1).

After requiring a long break to recover from a knee to the groin in the opening round, the Japanese veteran took Stevens to the ground with a combination of takedowns and trips throughout the fight, but couldn’t find an opening to sink in one of his signature submissions.

If Aoki decides to remain in the 145-pound division then one of the major beneficiaries could be his 155-pound Evolve MMA teammate Eddie Ng (7-1), who claimed his fourth straight ONE FC victory with a first-round submission win over Peter Davis (6-3).

Tatsuya Mizuno (12-9) snapped a two-fight winning streak with a decision win over Rafael Silva (39-14) in a bout that became progressively more entertaining. The first round belonged to the Portuguese fighter, who was scoring with wild punches, but the Japanese veteran started to let his knees go towards the end of the second.

That slowed Silva down significantly and Mizuno spent the third round pounding on him with an assortment of strikes, but could not put away the European, who showed an iron chin to make it to the final bell.

Earlier in the night there were big wins for light heavyweight Sylvain Potard, who stopped Jake Butler in the second round, and featherweight Shannon Wiratchai, who finished Mitch Chilson in the first courtesy of some vicious soccer kicks and a solid follow-up punch.

The highlight of the undercard was undoubtedly the women’s MMA fight between Malaysia’s Ann Osman and Singapore’s Sherlyin Lim. Each was making her debut, but went toe to toe for three rounds to the delight of the crowd.

In the end it was Lim who claimed the first win of her professional career by split decision, but the fight could have gone either way and a rematch is reportedly already in the works. It could happen as soon as next month’s ONE FC card in Malaysia.

Speaking after the event, Victor Cui said he planned to also put Peter Davis on the Nov. 15 card in Kuala Lumpur, and that a December event in Manila would be announced later this month.

The ONE FC CEO/Owner hailed the success of his promotion’s fifth show in Singapore telling the media, “ONE FC has delivered yet another night of world-class MMA action to a packed out Singapore Indoor Stadium that had the fans on the edge of their seats.”
