Pechalat out to nose ahead

Eurosport

Pechalat's participation in Nice had been in doubt just two weeks ago after she fractured her nose in a training accident at their Detroit base, calling the setback "a catastrophe".

The European champion turned up at the Acropolis Centre on Wednesday sporting a flesh-coloured tape across the bridge of her nose and brought the house down with Bourzat as they got the roaring crowd clapping their approval throughout their Samba short dance.

The rousing performance earned them 69.13 points, leaving them 3.18 points behind Canadian leaders Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir and just 1.85 points adrift of American world champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

"It's broken, it's done, I'm not going to break it again so it was the last thing on my mind this week. I was more focused on my performance than on my nose," Pechalat said.

Talking tactics ahead of the free dance, Bourzat added: "We have never been so close to these two couples before so we are just going to a-tta-ck our free dance tomorrow.

Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Schoenfelder were the last French couple to win the world ice dance title.
