Sheffield United academy manager John Pemberton has turned down Crawley offer

Sheffield United academy director John Pemberton has turned down the opportunity to succeed Sean O'Driscoll as Crawley manager.

Crawley made an approach for the 47-year-old on Tuesday and he becomes the second candidate to reject the Red Devils after Aldershot boss Dean Holdsworth also declined an invitation to take over at the npower League One club.

"I have a great relationship with Sheffield United and I am enjoying the work I am doing here," Pemberton told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I felt at this moment it was important to show loyalty because we are trying to build something in difficult times.

"I'm very flattered but I didn't feel that this was the right time to leave the club."

Crawley have been without a manager since O'Driscoll accepted the Nottingham Forest job last week.
