Former England internationals Glenn Hoddle and Ray Wilkins have offered suggestions to improve penalty shoot-outs.

Eurosport-Yahoo! spoke exclusively to the pair before Euro 2012, where England went out on penalties to Italy after a 0-0 draw.

While both men see no obvious alternative, both offered a modification to the current format.

Hoddle, who both played for and managed England at the World Cup, said penalties should take place before extra-time - the losing team would then have to score in extra-time to go through, encouraging attacking football.

Wilkins, meanwhile, said each team's kicks should be taken at opposite ends of the stadium, meaning neither team had the advantage of playing in front of their fans.
