The Liverpool legend's 600th appearance for the Reds was already going wrong as he and his men were trudging in at half-time trailing Newcastle 1-0.
And to make matters worse the automatic pitch watering system then started misfiring, blasting hundreds of fans in icy water - not much fun considering that the temperature was just a few degrees above freezing.
Even the club's top brass were not immune: the jet went straight into the directors' box, and though some saw the funny side other fans were left fuming at getting caught in the unscheduled shower.
Ground staff managed to get things fixed within a few minutes, and things improved still further for Gerrard and co as Luis Suarez scored a second-half equaliser to ensure the Reds a share of the points.
