The former Manchester United manager - who came second in the award two years ago - is up against two Bundesliga managers: Bayern Munich's former boss Jupp Heynckes, who guided Bayern to the treble last season; and Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp, who took his men to the Champions League final.
The award has only been running for three years, having been launched as the managerial equivalent of the Ballon d'Or.
Jose Mourinho won the original award in 2010 after guiding Inter Milan to the treble that season, and Heynckes - who left Bayern after his remarkable season - is the hot favourite to claim this year's crown.
The award, which is voted for by coaches, international team captains and journalists, will be presented to the winner on January 13 in Zurich.
