Robbie Brady scores the winning penalty for Hull against West Ham

Robbie Brady's cool finish from the spot earned Hull a narrow win over West Ham in a full-blooded contest at the KC Stadium.

The in-form Brady sent Jussi Jaaskelainen the wrong way from 12 yards after the Irishman himself was pushed in the box by Joey O'Brien, despite replays showing contact was minimal.

Hull were well on top in a fast-paced first half and Brady, a key man throughout, engineered two chances in a minute for the Tigers - but Curtis Davies and then Ahmed Elmohamady saw headers from Brady's corners cleared off the line.

Jake Livermore hit the post as Hull threatened in the second half, but West Ham felt they should been awarded a second-half penalty when the ball bounced off Livermore's elbow -nothing was given and Hull survived the late West Ham onslaught to secure their third victory of the season.

KEY MOMENTS

PRE-MATCH: In-form Robbie Brady starts, despite concerns over a hernia. Hull’s star man will need an operation, but Steve Bruce hopes he can put it off until the international break.

12’ – GOAL: Hull 1-0 West Ham – Brady goes down after a push in the back by O’Brien. Replays showed it to be harsh call, despite there being some contact, and Brady gets up to send Jaaskelainen the wrong way.

37’ – DOUBLE CHANCE: Two chances in a minute for Hull, both engineered by brilliant Brady corners. The first is cleared off the line after Davies’s header appeared to be creeping in, the second is palmed away by Jaaskelainen after Elmohamady met it with his head.

67’ – OFF THE POST: Graham tees up Livermore, whose low shot from 20 yards comes back off the base of the post.

75’ – WEST HAM PENALTY? The ball pops up and strikes Livermore’s elbow. West Ham adamant it should have been a penalty, and it would appear they have a case.
