West Ham pushed Fulham manager Martin Jol closer to the sack with a 3-0 Premier League win at Upton Park.

Jol's future was already the source of intense speculation before his side produced yet another flat performance, with the result leaving them firmly in the relegation zone.

Mohamed Diame scored the opener with a deflected shot just after half-time, before substitute Carlton Cole converted from close range.

Joe Cole then fired in from the edge of the box to complete a miserable afternoon for Jol, who ended the match with his head in his hands.

West Ham never sparkled but always had the upper hand over a lifeless Fulham outfit who created little and looked like a side resigned to life in the bottom three.

With Dimitar Berbatov left out on account of an unspecified illness, Darren Bent led the line for the visitors but made little impact.

His brightest moment came when George McCartney brought him down at the edge of the box when the striker appeared to be through. Martin Atkinson declined to send McCartney off, and Fulham's fate was effectively sealed.

KEY MOMENTS

Pre-match: Berbatov is left out of the Fulham squad altogether, with the club saying the striker is unwell.

9' OFF THE POST! Modibo Maiga meets Mark Noble's free-kick with an attempted header that comes off his shoulder and thumps into the right-hand post.

28' CONTROVERSY: McCartney pulls down Bent at the edge of the West Ham box. Bent exaggerates the contact but appears to be through on goal. But ref Atkinson, somewhat unsighted, shows McCartney a yellow card.

45+2' NEEDLE: Diame is booked for a crude challenge on Damien Duff. It's the fifth yellow card of the half after Kieran Richardson, James Tomkins, Steve Sidwell and McCartney

47' GOAL - West Ham 1-0 Fulham: Scott Parker gives the ball away, Diame races through and his shot takes a big deflection off Fernando Amorebieta, wrong-footing Maarten Stekelenburg and finding the net.

64' CHANCE: Tomkins meets a corner with a back-post header that is cleared off the line by Bent.

81' MISS: Moments after he could have had a penalty, Ravel Morrison drags the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.

82' GOAL - West Ham 2-0 Fulham: Carlton Cole makes it safe with virtually his first touch after coming on, converting a Stewart Downing cross from close range.

88' GOAL - West Ham 3-0 Fulham: Joe Cole thumps the ball into the corner of the net from 20 yards after magnificent skills from Ravel Morrison to set up the chance.

TALKING POINT

Jol under fire. It's surely just a matter of whether Fulham take minutes, hours or days to dispense with Martin Jol. The manager himself admitted his future hung in the balance before today, and Fulham's performance bore all the hallmarks of a side that have stopped responding to the manager. Expect to see Rene Meulensteen in the hot seat by next midweek.

KEY STATS

West Ham's first goal was the 100th Fulham have conceded in Premier League London derbies.

Carlton Cole has now scored seven Premier League goals against Fulham; at least three more than against any other side.

West Ham are unbeaten in the last nine Premier League home meetings v Fulham (5 wins, 4 draws), a run which stretches back to November 2001.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Stewart Downing (West Ham): This was hardly a command performance from West Ham, who were the grateful beneficiaries from a substandard Fulham display. But Downing's ceaseless desire to run at the hopelessly inadequate Kieran Richardson was a key factor for Sam Allardyce's men.
