Aston Villa and Swansea remained in the bottom half of the Premier League after a 1-1 draw at Villa Park, although the visitors will wonder how they failed to win after totally dominating the match.

Villa had gone ahead courtesy of Gabriel Agbonlahor’s seventh-minute strike as he slotted past Gerhard Tremmel from Andreas Weimann’s through ball.

The hosts soaked up wave after wave of intense pressure as Swansea dominated in terms of possession and chances.

And it was no surprise when Roland Lamah headed in his first Premier League goal, the former Osasuna striker stooping to head in from Pablo Hernandez’s cross.

Swansea continued to carve out the better chances in the second half but the home side held firm for a point.

The draw means that Swansea are 11th, above Stoke on goal difference. The Potters play Tottenham on Sunday and Villa stay 13th with pressure mounting on Paul Lambert, whose team have still only won twice at home this season.

KEY MOMENTS

7’ – AGBONLAHOR OPENS SCORING: Weimann plays in Agbonlahor and the striker makes no mistake with his slide-rule finish. It was the striker’s second quickest PL goal.

19’ – BIG MISS BEN DAVIES: He somehow heads down into the ground and over the bar from a couple of yards out from Jonathan De Guzman’s corner.

35’ – GOOD EFFORT DE GUZMAN: He strikes a cracking effort just wide of Guzan’s post.

36’ – GOAL SWANSEA: Lamah scores his first in the Premier League, heading in at the far post from Hernandez’s cross.

64’ – JONJO SHELVEY GOES CLOSE: His shot is curling for the far corner but Antonio Luna does well to block with Brad Guzan seemingly beaten.

86’ – CLARK SUSPENDED: Ciaran Clark is booked for a challenge on Shelvey, meaning he misses the trip to Sunderland.

TALKING POINT: Lambert under pressure? The Villa manager has seen his side win only twice at home this season and the patience of the fans and the board must surely be running out.
