A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Raheem Sterling, 18, of Woolton, was charged with Section 39 common assault. Sterling was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court today."

The Jamaica-born winger, who was raised in London, reportedly spent a night in the cells after an incident in Page Moss, Merseyside.

He was arrested at 10.30 pm. Earlier that evening Sterling tweeted a picture of his dinner.

Rose won Miss United Kingdom beauty pageant earlier this year and competed at the Miss World contest in March.

Sterling came through QPR's youth system before joining Liverpool as a 15-year-old.

He made 24 Premier League appearances last season, earning an England cap in the process, but his form tailed off and he has been linked with a loan move this summer.
