GK: Gerhard Tremmel (Swansea City)

The German keeper excelled when standing in for the absent Michel Vorm and kept a clean sheet despite Liverpool having nine shots on target at the Liberty Stadium.

RB: Glen Johnson (Liverpool)

The full-back combined well with Raheem Sterling down the right against Swansea and was unlucky not to score when Tremmel denied him with a fine save.

CB: Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)

On crutches 48 hours before kick-off, the Belgian defender was heavily strapped but excelled in a 0-0 draw at Chelsea, keeping Fernando Torres quiet throughout.

CB: Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City)

Shawcross looks poised to sign a new six-year deal at Stoke and he demonstrated just why he is so highly rated with a dominant performance at the back in a 1-0 win over Fulham.

LB: Leighton Baines (Everton)

Though he unfortunately conceded the late free-kick for Norwich's equaliser, Baines was in brilliant form in a 1-1 draw at Goodison as he made a succession of driving runs and delivered a stream of dangerous cross.

CM: Adam Lallana (Southampton)

As well as chipping in with a goal, Lallana had an influential all-round performance in the 2-0 home win over Newcastle United as he played the ball around with confidence and showed a touch of class.

CM: Claudio Yacob (West Brom)

Another superb display from the Argentine, who bossed the midfield in a 4-2 win at Sunderland and set the tempo with his clever passing game.

AMR: Pablo Hernandez (Swansea City)

Liverpool struggled to cope with the trickery of the Spanish winger-cum-playmaker as his close control opened up the visiting defence on a number of occasions.

AMC: Jordi Gomez (Wigan Athletic)

Booed by some Wigan fans at the start of the game, the midfielder responded by scoring a perfect hat-trick in a 3-2 win over Reading.

AML: Gaston Ramirez (Souhampton)

Southampton's record signing is really beginning to justify the price tag with some influential performances and he scored his side's second goal in a 2-0 win over Newcastle.

ST: Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur)

Defoe took his tally for the season to seven for Spurs with a brace against former club West Ham, the first of which was a tremendous effort.
