Record-Breaker Edwards Stars As England Win

England captain Charlotte Edwards has become the highest-ever scorer in women's one-day international cricket.

She hit 109 in her side's win over over hosts India in their second group match at the Women's World Cup.

Her seventh ODI century helped her overtake Australian Belinda Clark's record of 4,844 runs set in 2005.

A victory for England in Mumbai kick-starts their hopes of retaining the trophy after a surprising defeat to Sri Lanka in their opening game.

Edwards put on 100 runs for the second wicket with Sarah Taylor (35) before putting on 62 with Lydia Greenway (29) for the third.

When Edwards fell England were on 222-4 and despite two quick wickets, a quick-fire 37 from Arran Brindle helped the champions to a decent total.

Four wickets from pace bowler Katherine Brunt helped England to a 32-run victory.

England would have won by far more but for the efforts of Harmanpreet Kaur who scored an unbeaten 107.

India could only manage 240-9 in response with Danielle Wyatt chipping in with two late wickets.

That leaves all four teams in Group A with one win after West Indies beat Sri Lanka by 209 runs.

England need to finish in the top three of the pool to make it through to the Super 6 stage with their final match coming against West Indies on Tuesday.
