Roma's Lamela banned for spitting

Roma forward Erik Lamela has been banned for three games for spitting at an opponent.

Lamela, 20, was caught on video spitting at Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner during the Serie A game between the two sides on Sunday.

Lichtsteiner appeared to taunt Lamela by referencing the 4-0 scoreline in favour of Juve and Lamela responded by spitting at the Switzerland international.

The act was missed by the match officials but retrospective punishment means the forward will miss the upcoming matches against Fiorentina, Napoli and Chievo.

A Serie A statement read: "The television images show that the Giallorossi player, in the centre of the field but at a considerable distance from the play, was close to the Juventus player and that he - presumably in response to a mocking gesture - spat on the left shoulder of the Bianconeri player, leaving a visible residue."
