Warrington star Lee Briers inspired Swinton

Briers, who was playing for the Wolves' partner club in order to gain match fitness after a three-month injury lay-off, was involved in three of the Lions' five tries and picked off a floating pass by Whitehaven's Neil Thorman four minutes into the second half to score the crucial try that put the Lions two scores in front for the first time.

Inspired by Jamie Rooney, Whitehaven powered into a 24-20 lead courtesy of two tries from Papua New Guinea centre Jessie-Joe Parker but Swinton clinched victory with late scores from centre Ryan Shaw and man of the match Ritchie Hawkyard, who finished the match with a broken hand.
