Rugby League - Five Giants in Dream Team

Huddersfield's achievement in topping the league for the first time for 81 years is reflected in their domination of the 2013 Super League Dream Team, which for the first time contains no overseas players.

Five Huddersfield players have been chosen in this season's Super League Dream Team

Giants captain Danny Brough, who is among the front runners for the prestigious Man of Steel award after a stellar season, is joined in the line-up by four of his team-mates, centre Leroy Cudjoe, hooker Shaun Lunt, second-rower Brett Ferres and prop Eorl Crabtree.

They are among nine debutants in the team selected by a panel of broadcasters and journalists and unveiled at Huddersfield's John Smith's Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Challenge Cup winners Wigan have four players in full-back Sam Tomkins, winger Josh Charnley, loose forward Sean O'Loughlin, who all retain their places from 2012, and scrum-half Matty Smith.

The team is drawn from just five clubs, with Warrington failing to supply a single representative for the first time since 2006.

Hull's 20-year-old centre Ben Crooks is the youngest player selected, alongside his wing partner Tom Lineham, who is just 21, while at the other end of the age scale, there is a recall for 35-year-old Leeds prop Jamie Peacock.

Peacock, whose last appearance in the Dream Team was in 2009, has now made an unprecedented eighth appearance, one more than former St Helens hooker Keiron Cunningham with whom he shared the record.

The only player not involved in the Super League play-offs that kick off this week is second-rower Danny Kirmond, who has been the stand-out performer for Wakefield in 2013.

It is the first time in its 18-year history that the Dream Team comprises 13 British players which the Rugby Football League believes reflects the investment in player development by Super League clubs over the last decade but may also be down to a shortage of elite talent from the NRL.

The absence of any overseas players comes 12 years after the 2001 Dream Team contained just six British players, including Peacock.

The 2013 Super League Dream Team is:

Full-back: Sam Tomkins (Wigan), Wing: Josh Charnley (Wigan), Centre: Leroy Cudjoe (Huddersfield), Centre: Ben Crooks (Hull), Wing: Tom Lineham (Hull), Stand-off: Danny Brough (Huddersfield), Scrum-half: Matty Smith (Wigan), Prop: Jamie Peacock (Leeds), Hooker: Shaun Lunt (Huddersfield), Prop: Eorl Crabtree (Huddersfield), Second row: Brett Ferres (Huddersfield), Second row: Danny Kirmond (Wakefield), Loose forward: Sean O'Loughlin (Wigan).
