Kyle Briggs and Andy Ellis also touched down before the break to give Rovers a commanding 22-0 lead while Andy Kain added two more in the second half, with Martyn Ridyard grabbing a consolation effort for the visitors.

Neighbours Whitehaven and Workington both marked their promotion from Championship One with opening-round wins but fellow Cumbrians Barrow went down 42-12 to Hunslet on their return to the top flight.

Whitehaven trailed 12-8 to York at the Recreation Ground but Craig Calvert's 49th-minute score edged them back in front and Chris Fleming, Jesse Joe Parker and Paul Cullnean grabbed late tries to secure a 32-22 success.

Hull winger Tom Lineham, playing for the City Knights on a dual registration, scored two late tries for the visitors.

Declan Hulme and veteran Peter Lupton were Workington's tryscorers in a 14-10 win over Swinton at Leigh Sports Village.

James Laithwaite, one of three Warrington players on a dual registration, gave Swinton the lead with the game's opening try and Martin Ainscough added a second but Workington's Carl Forber kicked three goals to just one from Ryan Shaw to provide the difference.

Danny Grimshaw and Leeds threequarter Jimmy Keinhorst scored two tries apiece for Hunslet against Barrow, for whom debutants Kurt Haggerty and Adam Clay touched down.

Elsewhere, former St Helens full-back Miles Greenwood scored a hat-trick on his Batley debut to help John Kear's men to a 42-10 win over Keighley while Bradford reserve hooker Adam O'Brien touched down twice for Dewsbury in their 22-16 win at Doncaster.
