Salford could be fined or face a points deduction

The Tigers have lodged a complaint with the Rugby Football League, who confirmed it is carrying out an investigation. Castleford chief executive Steve Gill claims that three plays took place while the Reds had an extra man after making a substitution four minutes from the end of the match.

Salford held on for a win that lifted them off the foot of the table in Brian Noble's first match in charge. There is no precedent for Castleford being awarded the points but the Reds could be fined or face a points deduction if they are found to have breached the RFL operational rules.

The RFL is expected to make a statement on Tuesday and a tribunal could be convened as early as next week.

Meanwhile, Castleford full-back Jordan Tansey has been cleared to face Hull KR on Sunday after avoiding suspension.

Tansey submitted an early-guilty plea after being charged with a minor grade A high tackle during the game at Salford.

London Broncos centre James Mendeika is free to make a second appearance for his new club after being cleared of a grade B charge.

Mendeika, who has joined the Broncos on loan from Warrington, was accused of using his knees in contact during London's 21-14 win over St Helens on Saturday.

He was found not guilty when he appeared before the RFL disciplinary committee via Skype and is set to play in Friday's game at Hull.
